We are a team of Gambians and Germans who are united by the conviction that every child and every young person in the world deserves a perspective. As of right now this is not the case for most young Gambians. Driven by desperation and a lack of perspective, thousands of Gambian boys and girls (some under the age of 14) attempt to cross the Mediterranean-Sea to Europe illegally every year. The situation in The Gambia is so disastrous that many of them risk this ‘journey’, even though they know that many boats will sink and the passengers drown.
Our ultimate goal is to combat the causes for illegal migration. But not because we don’t want Gambians in Europe, but because we believe that young and energetic Gambians are needed to create a brighter future for The Gambia.
We aim to create perspective FOR and WITH young people. The two main pillars of our approach are simple: AGRICULTURE and EDUCATION. Whether our teachers, our students and staff at the agricultural training center (MFC), or the team members in Germany, we are all passionate about one thing: we want to contribute to help develop The Gambia and fight for global justice.
Child-orientated play and learning is a distant dream for most children in Salikenni, a village in rural Gambia. In our kindergarten in Salikenni, the children enjoy a protected daily routine and receive two protein-rich meals each day. Children from the ages of 4-8 learn to solve problems autonomously in many different forms. There are classes for basic English, Mathematics as well as Geography for our older kids. Younger kids start with group play, creative tasks (e.g. coloring) and simple games such as memory. We are all about developing the child’s character and thinking in a playful friendly manner.
Located just 7km away from the nursery school in Salikenni, our
Mixed Farming Center (MFC)
offers young adults not only the opportunity for further education as part of their studies but also a career perspective and the chance to build a livelihood in their own country. We do this in close cooperation with the Gambian College for Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture.
3-5 Students at a time can currently do their practical semesters with us. Here they learn new agricultural methods and a more efficient and sustainable approach to crop and animal production. The methods and approach to farming that they learn at MFC will be of great help in their further agricultural careeers. We are proud that as of January 2025 we will welcome some of the students who were doing their practical term on MFC as full-time employees. This is one our other main goals: We aim to create sustainable and safe jobs for young Gambians, not only in the production of primary goods, but in food processing as well. We believe that one of the key factors for the development of The Gambia is to keep as much of the value chain as possible here.
